Maiden Voyages Bring Promise to Cruise and Ferry Operators

On 20 March 2024, the refurbished cruise ship Birka Gotland, formerly known as Birka Stockholm, embarked on its maiden voyage from Stockholm to Mariehamn with 600 passengers. Despite having a capacity for 1,800 passengers, the decision to start with reduced capacity ensures smoother operations and adaptation to routines. This vessel, a product of collaboration between Viking Line and Gotlandsbolaget under Gotland Alandia Cruises, signifies a promising venture. CEO Susanne Kaarnimo-Knight expresses optimism about Birka Gotland’s ability to cater to market demand effectively.

The Finnish ferry operator Finnlines observes substantial passenger growth following the introduction of its latest vessels, Finnsirius and Finncanopus. Within just one month of deploying the second vessel on the Naantandal-Långnäs-Kapellskär route, Finnlines reports nearly quadruple the passenger numbers compared to the previous year. Marco Palmu, Head of Finnlines’ Passenger Services, expresses satisfaction with the positive reception from passengers and anticipates a prosperous summer season ahead.
